{9 January 2008}   preserving sanity

“just when did you start collecting pugad baboy?!”

batccai (read: bat-chay) asked me, half-surprised and half-amused, through YM yesterday.

“the first time i read one of its issues a long time ago, i’ve been wanting to collect it. it’s one way of preserving my sanity. it makes me laugh, amidst crises” i answered.

“but you only have one copy!,?” she blurted, teasing me like july did.

“i got two now!” i said defensively. “i will have more if you’ll give me some issues of it! hahaha!”

it’s not that only PB keeps me sane. it’s reading that keeps me sane. it seems a growing passion for me. thus, during the christmas and new year breaks, i indulged myself in books, to at least free myself from the pressures of family and work.

thanks to Kuya Thads for letting me borrow his:

BAKIT BALIKTAD MAGBASA NG LIBRO ANG MGA PILIPINO? by Bob Ong; and

NO ONE WRITES TO THE COLONEL by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

i still have to finish

THE AUTUMN OF THE PATRIARCH also by Marquez; and

THE DHARMA BUMS by Jack Keouac

i promised that i won’t limit myself to reading novels. next time, i will buy (or borrow) books that would practically help me, like PREGNANCY AFTER A LOSS by Carol Cirulli Lanham.

***fyi: ccai ccai is one of my close buddies and my partner-in-crime way back in college. we used to delve ukay-ukay along san pedro street, ate skewered grilled banana outside our campus, bantered with classmates in between classes, and played volleyball and kickball during intramurals, among others. she is now in dubai, in search for greener pasture. she’s presently working in the logistics department of the al youssuf company.

{8 December 2007}   oink!

Two weeks ago my dear friend, July, called up and was bantering about my one and only copy of Pugad Baboy compared to her a dozen (if my memory doesn’t betray me).

I told her that I was only beginning to collect and asked her, instead, to give me her collection as a Christmas gift.

I hope she reads this. Hehehe (i-pressure bah ang amiga?!)

{15 August 2007}   a love story

“In the greatest love stories

there‘s a man

a woman

and the wife who comes between them”

This is not exactly the same situation that my very good friend is facing right now. But, having seen her during the times that she poured her heart out: on how painful it was when she confirmed that her husband is philandering while she was busy at work and taking care of their two children; I asked myself, what really leads a man/woman to commit extra-marital affair?

My good friend and her husband are now trying to save their marriage. Not only because of their children, she told me. It was more because they still love each other. They want to give their relationship a second chance.

At this juncture, my friend finds it hard to trust her husband again. Maybe because she’s still devastated and can’t believe that with everything she had sacrificed for the man, the latter betrayed him.

If you’re in this situation, what would you do?

{11 August 2007}   cK

She sent me this text message last night, regarding this blog…

Checking it out right now.  It’s very romantic.  I’ll need time to digest, though.  Don’t worry, I’ll be a frequent visitor from now on :)August 10, 7:47pm

and sent me an email which made me laugh to my heart’s content…

and yes, Josh Hartnett’s pic, too…

because of these, I have to thank her and let her know, that she’s the reason why I added a new category…

Laughter, the best medicine.

{10 August 2007}   stamping ground

After our tiresome, yet, relevant travel the other day, I and my good buddy CK found a new place to hangout.

for nightcappingneeds.jpg

the Day to Day Hypermarket!

located along Uyanguren Street, opposite the Sta. Ana HighSchool

and just beside the GMA station

If you ‘re from Davao, you may visit the place for a nightcap or just for some chit-chat.

Be sure you buy their goods, though…

below is a post from my old blog, with minor revision…

Last Saturday (April 15), I got the chance to see, again, one of my closest classmates in college – Dane.

I was so excited to know, the night before, that she was on her way to Davao (after spending the Holy Week in her hometown, in the southern part of Mindanao), to help her sister find a place to stay while on review for the board exams. I then asked Dane that if she was not that busy, maybe we could meet, at least for a few hours.

Gladly, she was as enthusiastic as me!

You see, we have not seen each other for four long years. Fortunately, somebody invented the mobile phone for this generation! Somehow, we were able to communicate and manage to give updates of our lives.

As you may know, Dane and I were part of the team who underwent an on-the-job training in a big company in Compostela Valley Province — a more than three-hour ride from Davao City.

Doing an OJT was one of the requisites of our course. Our teachers said that it is an application of the theories, a pragmatic preparation before we graduate. We had such an unforgettable experience the whole summer of 2001! (you know, integrating with the agricultural workers, conducting a time and motion study, analyzing company problems and presenting them to the bosses, whew!)

And so our reunion day came. We talked about a lot of things while munching our french fries paired with iced tea (it was Dane’s treat, yehey!). We tried to encapsulate the four years of our lives, years that we haven’t had the luxury to share with each other, like the good old days.

She was the same bright, joyful, generous and determined Dane that I know. The only difference now, I think is that, she wears business suit (hehehe! too different from our white blouse and skirt uniform in college). She works in a telecommunication company in Manila for already two years.

Dane does not have a boyfriend, yet. Aside from work and sending her younger sister to school, her religious studies (am not sure how it was called, but it’s like a masters degree) kept her time. She was so thrilled to know that I am engaged, and is looking forward to witness the wedding (whenever would that be!), and promised me she will if the date falls on late December.

Ah, it was nice to see her again. We even longed to meet some of our close friends like Cathy, Kikis, Sundee, among others.

After we bade our goodbye that time, we have nothing but smiles in our hearts and faces. And even if we are away from each other, we can always savour the fond memories of our friendship.

{7 August 2007}   sumkinda reunion

Last August 5, we celebrated the 26th birthday of my college classmate slash good friend, Kikis.  Her birthday was in July 31, but she was busy with her work in Cagayan de Oro City that time– the reason for a belated birthday party.

Anyways, we had a good time.  Who wouldn’t when there’s food and cola? Cakes and ice cream, too!

Our good friend Dane was also present.  She was staying in Davao for awhile after resigning from her work in Manila.  By next week, she’ll start her new work, there in her hometown — Marbel, South Cotabato.  Whoa!  Good for her :)

Too bad, our group was not complete.  Catti was busy preparing for her upcoming wedding.  She’s very busy.  She didn’t even had the time to answer my text message (“wink wink”). Hehehe (peace Catti!)

Though we only stayed at Kikis’ place in less than two hours, we had a wonderful time.  We met her three former officemates, whose names I forgot.

So, til next meeting…
